The Scholars program at Columbia University and the University of Chicago gives people who have shown a commitment to service the knowledge and skills they need to make their efforts more effective, come up with new ways to solve important global problems, and help change happen through values-based leadership.

A worldwide network that transcends concerns and borders will be formed as a result of the program by emerging leaders who are committed to collaborating to address the most urgent problems of our day. Obama Foundation Scholars who successfully complete the program will:

  • To speed up the good changes in their neighborhood, they should go back to working on the global issue they are focusing on and put their personal action plan into action.
  • Get a chance to join the Obama Foundation’s efforts to support, encourage, and connect up-and-coming leaders from all over the world.

Scholars can learn from top leaders in different fields and from the wealth of knowledge in the network of Obama Foundation program participants. This helps them figure out how they want to use their new skills, networks, and knowledge after they graduate from the program.

Basic Information About the Obama Foundation

Through a fundamentally shared set of principles and leadership competencies, the Obama Foundation Leaders: Africa initiative will inspire, develop, and connect up-and-coming leaders from all over the African continent.

They will collaborate to create a network of ethical changemakers, role models, and innovators ready to address the most pressing issues confronting their communities, nations, and continents.

We’re seeking changemakers who have shown a dedication to improving the common good within their sphere of influence and have a demonstrable potential for impact, as well as a commitment to integrity in all spheres of influence, including government, civil society, the commercial sector, and beyond.

Benefits of the Obama Foundation Scholarship

1. A monthly stipend to help with New York City living costs

2. If the program is able to meet in person, a furnished studio apartment close to Columbia University

3. Up to four courses at Columbia University at full tuition and fees

4. If the program can meet in person, basic health, dental, and life insurance for the duration of the program in New York City.

5. Airfare to and from the participant’s home country and other program-related events, if the program may hold in-person meetings.

Eligibility Requirements for Obama Foundation Scholars Program

The Obama Foundation Scholars Program at Columbia University is looking for future leaders from the United States and other countries who meet the following criteria:

1. Are they up-and-coming leaders who have made a big difference in their field and are now having a “breakthrough moment” in their careers?

2. Have shown that they are committed to going back to these communities after they finish the program to use their new training, skills, and connections for the long-term good of these communities. 3. Have shown that they are committed to service and leadership in a community, region, or country.

3. Speak English well (verbal, written, and spoken).

4. Be able to and want to make a positive difference in the future of their community.

5. Have shown that you care about diversity, care about the community, are optimistic, brave, creative, have a plan, are accountable, have integrity, and are strong.
